Troup County Jail Processes LaGrange Arrests
All arrests made in LaGrange go through the Troup County Jail for booking. The sheriff's office runs the detention facility and manages intake for every law enforcement agency in the county. Whether the arrest is made by LaGrange Police, Troup County deputies, or state patrol, the person goes to the same jail. The intake process is the same for everyone.
The Troup County Sheriff's Office provides an inmate lookup tool. Visit troupcountysheriff.org/home/jail to search for people currently held in the jail. You can find names, booking dates, charges, and bond status. This covers recent LaGrange arrests. It is free to use and does not need a login.
LaGrange sits close to the Alabama border. That means some cases involve cross-state issues. But the booking process stays the same. If someone is arrested in LaGrange by Georgia law enforcement, they go to the Troup County Jail regardless of where they live. Out-of-state residents arrested in LaGrange are booked the same way as locals.
LaGrange Police Department
LaGrange Police is the main law enforcement agency for the city. The department patrols city streets and responds to calls. Officers handle everything from traffic stops to major crime investigations.

The department does not have a jail. After an arrest, officers transport the person to the Troup County detention center. LaGrange PD keeps its own arrest reports and incident files at the station. If you need a police report from a LaGrange arrest, contact the department. For mugshots and booking records, contact the Troup County Sheriff's Office instead.
LaGrange PD works with several other agencies in the area. The Troup County Sheriff, West Point Police, and Hogansville Police all serve parts of the county. Joint operations are common. All of their arrests go to the same county jail, and all mugshots are stored in the same system.
Searching LaGrange Jail Mugshots
The Troup County Sheriff's jail page at troupcountysheriff.org/home/jail is the best starting point. Check there for current inmates. The search covers people booked at the county jail from all over Troup County, including LaGrange.
If the person is no longer in the county jail, try the state-level tools. The Georgia Department of Corrections search form is shown below.
GDC tracks people who have been sentenced to state prison. Use it when someone has left the county jail and moved into the state system.
The GDC offender search is free. Enter a name and it shows matching state inmates with mugshots, sentences, and facility info. The GBI criminal history search covers arrests from all Georgia agencies and may include LaGrange data. GBI checks cost a fee.
You can also file an open records request with the Troup County Sheriff. Georgia law under O.C.G.A. 50-18-70 gives you the right to request booking records. The agency has three business days to respond. Copy fees are capped by state law at 10 cents per page under O.C.G.A. 50-18-71.
Georgia's Mugshot Protection Statute
Under O.C.G.A. 35-1-19, Georgia law enforcement agencies must get a signed statement before releasing a mugshot. The person requesting the photo must say they will not post it on a website that charges for removal. The Troup County Sheriff and LaGrange Police both follow this requirement.
The law targets mugshot exploitation sites. Before it was enacted, some websites grabbed booking photos and posted them. Then they charged people money to take the images down. Georgia stopped this by making agencies check the intent of anyone requesting mugshots. This applies statewide.
If your LaGrange mugshot ends up on an exploitation site anyway, the Georgia Consumer Protection Division can help. Send a written request to the site first. If they do not remove it within 30 days, file a complaint with the state. You should never have to pay a website to take down your booking photo. The state takes these complaints seriously and can investigate.
Getting a Record Restricted
O.C.G.A. 35-3-37 allows record restriction in Georgia. If your LaGrange arrest was dismissed, you were found not guilty, or you completed a first offender sentence, you may qualify. A restricted record means the mugshot and booking data will not show up when someone runs a standard background check on you.
To start the process, file a petition in the Troup County court that handled your case. The judge reviews it and makes a decision. The Troup County Clerk of Court can tell you which forms you need. If you cannot afford a lawyer, Georgia Legal Aid at georgialegalaid.org may be able to help with the paperwork.
Restriction does not erase the record. It seals it from public view. Law enforcement can still see restricted records. But employers, landlords, and others running background checks will not find the arrest. For people with dismissed cases in LaGrange, this is worth looking into.
Troup County Court System
LaGrange is the county seat, and all Troup County courts sit here. The Superior Court hears felonies. State Court handles misdemeanors. Magistrate Court does bond hearings and small claims. Criminal cases from LaGrange arrests move through one or more of these courts.
After booking at the county jail, an inmate who has not posted bond appears before a magistrate within 48 hours. The magistrate sets bail and reviews charges. The case then goes to the proper court. Each court proceeding creates records that connect back to the original booking and mugshot.
